Sri Lanka Women went down fighting by six wickets to the West Indies Women, but won the 3-match ODI series 2-1 in the new ICC Women’s Championship cycle a day ago at Grenada’s National Cricket Stadium in St. George.
The highlight of the match was West Indies Hayley Matthew’s center stage performance scoring 100 off 118 balls and claiming two wickets including the prize wicket of Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu for a duck. It was Matthews 10th ODI century.
Batting first the Lankan lasses ran up a formidable 217 for 7 wickets anchored by Harshitha Samarawickrama’s 70 off 112 balls. She went on to add 78 for the third wicket with Vishmi Gunaratne, Sri Lanka’s match winning half centurion in the previous match who made 26. Kavishka Dilhari was the second highest scorer for the Lankans with 45.
The series triumph gave the Lankan women 4 points to the West Indies 2 in the ICC Women’s Championship.
